Welcome to the Joe Bouchard section of the Hot Rails site in which I attempt to keep track of as many Joe-Bouchard-related shows and setlists as possible.
That's no small undertaking as these days Joe has quite a number of current projects: X Brothers, Joe Bouchard Solo, Joe Bouchard & Friends, BDS, and the The Joe Bouchard/Patty G Acoustic Project are the ones I feature on this site. I've been asked why I don't have anything on the Tree Top Blues Band - the reason is that they're a working covers band and don't play own material (that I know of).
I should stress: this site - like the other parts of Hot Rails - is just a fan archive site, and has no official standing or links with any of the bands featured therein, so for all the very latest and most up-to-date info on what's Joe's doing and where's he's playing next, check out his official site.
Have you ever seen a Joe Bouchard-related show? If so, please consider sending me a , and if you know of any gigs or setlists I'm missing, again, I'd be happy to hear from you.
Joe's site is up at last - pop over and sign his guestbook...

Cellsum just gave some details about the Blue Coupe debut show...
Blue Coupe Debut
The Blue Coupe show in the Poconos was a great success. It was a sold out show of revelers ready to hear a slew of classic songs from a combo that was a terpsichorean dream finally realized. The stage banter was a series of stories about how songs came to be and close encounters of a famous kind.
Sound and lights were provided by local band Bad Influence who joined the Coupe onstage at the end of the second set for a multi-band jam. The projected north-easter never materialized and everyone got home happy, safe and sound.

Blue Coupe is Albert Bouchard, Joe Bouchard and Dennis Dunaway
Joe's just posted this report on J&A's of his recent Colorado adventure:
We played some great shows. The band Roktapus is a three piece group of young BOC fanatics. The drummer calls him self Chadzilla so you know he's into it. They are virtuoso players with a deep funky vibe. They've done tributes to the Meters, Led Zep, the Police and Spinal Tap in the past. I think that a BOC tribute was definitely appropriate.
What I did was book this as Joe Bouchard Solo Shows with Roktapus doing a tribute to BOC which I was glad to be a part of. It was nice to do a little of both.
Here's the set lists.

It was a very interesting tour. I had not been to Colorado in over 20 years. The fans were very receptive and I plan to go back possibly in December for more shows.
I got to see Savoy Brown on my night off. Boy, did that bring back memories! BOC played many gigs with Savoy in the very early days. Kim Simmons is the singer now and he's playing guitar better than ever.
It was great to renew old friendships.

Joe's just posted this report on J&A's of his solo gig at Doyle's in Palmer MA on 15 July:
This was a great gig. It was the first time I played a Sunday afternoon matinee and in spite of my trepidations, it turned out great. It was a small club near a lake and every seat was filled with many fans.
Steve was the soundman who also plays bass. He plays in a very popular local Jimmy Buffett tribute band called Changes in Latitudes. They play at steady gigs at the casinos in Connecticut.
The show was from 3 to 5 PM and, since the club was near a public beach, a thunderstorm drew people inside for some entertainment and liquid refreshment. With my years of experience I can play for hours by myself, but the question is: can my two hour show be entertaining and complete without a full back up band. I saw Roger McGuinn do solo recently and he did just that. I didn't miss the Byrds at all. Well . . . It was a great show for a Sunday afternoon, and I plan more shows like that.
Solo shows at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland are coming up on Aug 4 and 5. I would be playing these type of shows with Patty G but her severe back problem has caused her to drop out of our duo. So when I'm not with The X Brothers or TreeTop, I'm on my own.
One of the real reasons I did this show was the promoter of the show is also a video producer. He is producing a full length DVD of my solo performances. There is an excellent TV studio in Palmer MA that he gets for free on Sundays, so we shot a pro video of 16 of my songs on the morning before the show. It was a four camera shoot and I expect the final product will look great, and will be available in several different formats, i.e. Youtube, commercial DVD and Myspace Videos.
It all adds up to more gigs.
I'm very excited about going to Ireland on Thursday. See you at the X Brothers shows!

Joe's posted this on J&A's about the Regal Tones Reunion gig at Bonnie Castle Stables, Alexandria Bay on July 7th:
Hey Ralphie,
The show was great! It was a different format than last year in with 9 opening acts competing in a Battle of the Bands. The audience was a wide range of people from teens to middle agers like us.
I was concerned how it would all work out because those things can turn into a staging nightmare. But all the bands played on time and were very respectful of their opportunity to be a part of this event. All the bands were great, with many young musicians still in their teens and then there were several veterans our age. The winning band was a hard rocking group of young studs, Minus Mike from Clayton our hometown, who played the highest energy rockin set.
Okay, here's the set list:
Burnin' For You
Tequila
Ruby Baby
Memphis Tennessee (vocal Steve & JB)
Walk-Don't Run
Rebel Rouser
Lucille (vocal Ted)
What'd I Say
Runaway
Sleep Walk
Louie Louis (Albert guitar and vocal)
Joan Crawford (vocal Albert and piano Joe)
Surfing USA
California Girls
Fun, Fun, Fun
I Get Around
Do You Wanna Dance? (vocal Albert)
Twist And Shout
I Saw Her Standing There
Things We Said Today (vocal Ted)
Secret Agent Man (vocal Steve)
A Hard Day's Night
I Need You (vocal Ted)
Help!
Pretty Woman
Gimme Some Lovin (vocal Albert)
You Really Got Me
Godzilla
Encores:
(Don't Fear) The Reaper
Johnny Be Goode
Born To Be Wild
Goodnight Sweetheart
34 songs altogether. We cut down the set from last years 50 or so songs, but we didn't take an intermission and we added a few new numbers that garnered a great response.
Most likely the Regal Tones will rise again. When I looked across the stage at the band, there were the same guys I played with over 40 years ago and we're still as evergetic and youthful as we were back then. (We actually rehearsed all week again! It's amazing what that can do.) We are all blessed with great health and vitality for a bunch of old geezers.
Also I must add I played the best game of golf I ever played. I got a Birdie on the fourth hole of the Wellesley Island State Park course. I was dancing around like an idiot, but it was worth it.
Cheers. See you in ireland!

Joe's posted this on J&A's:
Hi Friends,
The summer of 2007 is filling up nicely. I Just want to let you know of a few up coming gigs.
First of all, I'll be sitting in for a couple of encores with the great Dennis Dunaway Project this Saturday June 23 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie. The Chance is one of my favorite venues in the Hudson Valley. There is an Alice Cooper tribute that is opening the show who I hear is very outrageous. http://www.thechancetheater.com/
Next Friday June 29 the X Brothers are opening the show for Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Borgata in Atlantic City. I hope I can hit the jackpot with the Money Machine!
The Ireland tour is coming soon for the X Brothers, July 19-25. We are releasing at extended play single for Irish radio stations. It consists of the four songs (Wild Ones [remixed], Cities On Flame [live] Money Machine [remixed] and Don't Fear the Reaper [live]) that are on our myspace site. http://www.myspace.com/xbrothers
After Ireland, I'll be playing two solo shows at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH on August 4th and 5th. I am performing a set both days at 2 PM with my 12 String. Later in the day I'll be sitting in with other artists including the Poobah Band and the Dennis Dunaway Project. Martin Popoff, who wrote the book on BOC, is planning to do a exclusive Q & A that weekend. I'll post the exact times and locations when I know more.
Speaking of solo stuff, I'm working on my solo acoustic album this summer. If you want to hear some of my latest demos head on over to: http://www.myspace.com/joebouchardsolo
See ya soon.

I got sent these pix by Phil Butta:
Here's a couple of pics of me (Phil Butta) jamming with Joe and Dennis Dunaway with Jimmy on drums, for a benefit performance at Union Square Park, NYC, April this year.
Benefit was for ASPCA. American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
I was the owner/bartender/bottle-washer (along with Paul Orofino) of Mary's Pub and Music Room aka Ale Mary's in Millbrook, New York.
We had lots of great talent there: Golden Earring, Frank Carillo, Joe Bouchard( solo, X-Brothers, etc.), Dennis Dunaway, Tommy Byrnes (Billy Joel), Richie Scarlet (Mountain), Eddie Kramer (engineer), and many others. The Pub was a happening joint back in the old days!
I used to keep a microphone behind the bar and play harp with the bands.
Joe, Dennis and I became and still are good friends ... getting together socially and at gigs. Joe and Dennis frequently call me up to jam at their gigs and we usually do Road House Blues and Back Door Man ... Doors tunes. Always a great time. Joe's been to my house several times and we play guitars and piano ... Joe's a really fine pianist.
I have some other pics of Joe and will post them when I can find them.
Joe's posted these dates on his site:
20 Jul 2007: Ballykeefe Amphitheatre, Kilkenny
21 Jul 2007: Half Moon Theatre, Cork
22 Jul 2007: King John's Castle, Limerick
23 Jul 2007: The Warwick, Galway
24 Jul 2007: Mansion House, Dublin
Joe's posted this on J&A's:
Seems like it's been a long winter in hibernation. It's time for some gigs. I've got two interesting ones coming up.
Thursday March 29th I'm playing solo acoustic at a "Feast of Friends" for Poptown Records, the same company that just released Ross and JP's "Thunderboss" CD. It's at the Sidewalk Cafe in NYC at 8 PM. It features an odd mix of urban eccentrics, and I hear this club is the best new "happenin'" spot in NYC.
The other really great gig is the double bill at the Cutting Room in NYC on Friday March 30th, The X Brothers with the Dennis Dunaway Project. This is the official release party for our new CDs. Expect a night of great rock 'n' roll with a combined jam with two bands at the end. Whoopee!
Finally, the long-awaited 2nd X Brothers CD "Beyond the Valley of the X" has been released at last on AHE and is currently available on CD Baby where you can also hear samples of all the tracks.
I've had "Beyond the Valley of the X" on repeat play for the best part of the last week and thought I'd share a few of my thoughts on what I think is a great album.
Here's Joe's latest news:
I've finished the X Brother CD, put up a website and now I'm helping spruce up the myspace/xbrothers spot. I've avoided the myspace craze, but there probably no better way to get your CD heard. There's always a lot to do. I took the summer off from teaching and it has been great. In between playing a little golf, I'm writing new songs and working on the edits for the Regal Tones live CD.
By the way - CD Baby is the best place to buy an X Brothers CD. In fact at the moment they are running a promotion that kicks off in November that features new releases. If we sell enough CDs we could be part of that promotion. CD Baby is a fantastic service for the indie artist. Their service is top notch. They send out checks every Monday night! With most other outlets you're lucky if you get paid every six months.
Patty and I are playing out regularly. Gigs at Eastside Cafe and Seany B's have been very good. Both club managers are harassing us for more dates, but playing out tends to slow down the recording process, so I'm being very selective. We are slowly working in new songs into the set. Unfortunately a lot of what we do is improvised on the spot and I don't have set lists. I got a new 12 string acoustic and that is filling out our sound quite nicely.
I saw Neal at a pool party on Sunday. He just came back from vacation in Finland. The flooding problems in his basement studio have been fixed and we plan to rev up the rehearsals this fall. BDS is booked to play at Chiller Theatre in NJ this October 28. Michael Bruce is planned to make an appearance with us.
I jammed with Dennis's band on Friday, July 21. He's got a great CD coming out soon, the songs are Dunaway gems. The only hold up to a release date is the cover art. Dennis is an artist himself and pretty fussy about visuals.
I also sat in with Rick Derringer two weeks ago at a casino in Connecticut. His show seems to follow a script to the letter, the only things that really gets him off is playing his blazing hot licks on the guitar.
The X Brothers would be playing more if Andy wasn't jet setting to Paris to see the Stones, and St. Tropez for Kid Rock's wedding. Must be nice. He brought a big box of X Bros. CDs with him and promoted the album to Lars, who discussed BOC quite a bit. Also Keith, Ron Wood and Lenny Kravitz got encouraged to promote to X Brothers Mania. It can't hurt to get our name out.
Sometimes I feel like I'm on the wrong planet.
The X Brothers are playing a private party in the Hamptons on Long Island on August 19th. It is a benefit for the American Red Cross. It's a huge event that will be the biggest party of the summer for the island crowd. Last year I missed the X Brothers performance on Long Island on August 20, 2005. Taking my place on guitars in the band were John McEnroe, tennis guy, and Michael J. Fox, actor. (see photo) Nice to know that it took two guitar players to replace me. ;-)!
I was on a rare vacation so I missed the date. I hope we can mix it up again this summer on the August 19th. There's no telling that those two will be there, but the guest list is a lot of big celebrities. I'd love to jam with McEnroe's wife, singer Patty Smythe. I'll be taking photos. ;-)!
Joe just reported back on the Regaltones gig:
Just got back home from the Regal Reunion. The show was beyond awesome. Great set lists, a packed house with over half the town attending.
For a few photos check out: this link.
Here's the run down. Was it taped? Yes. The venue was a hockey arena so it isn't the optimum sound, but the crowd was so rabid that any sonic deficiencies are covered by everyone singing along to every song. Not to mention the Twist contest!

Joe just mentioned this:
I should have Joebouchard.com up in a few weeks. Don't expect a lot of bells and whistles, but a good calendar and other essentials.
Also, BDS is no longer playing in Medford Oregon in May 2006. It was postponed to an indefinite date.
Apologies about the late updates to the site - my computer has died (fecking Steve Jobs!!) so I'm having to borrow one to do anything and it's slow going... your patience is appreciated...
Here's Joe's latest news:
No new gig info yet. John Hall is doing a benefit, but it's John Sebastian's (Lovin' Spoonful) show at the Towne Crier in Pawling, NY March 16. There may be a more rock style show down the line.
Patty and I are getting back up to speed. We played last night in a restaurant. It was a great show even with the intimate crowd.
The X Brothers CD is close to being done. Andy is here on Tuesday for an overdub session. We not finished recording everything. Now it's 14 songs, 7 covers and 7 originals.
You asked if I would care to leak any info out about the extra tracks to be included with the next round of BOC remasters, well, my lips are sealed. The only thing I can say is they're going to be great. Far better than the reissues of the past.
BTW - BDS is playing in Medford, Oregon on May 25. It's a big gig.
Here's Joe's latest news:
Patty is still recovering from her back surgery, so we've put any immediate duo gigs on hold. I could do solo acoustic gigs but would that be any fun?
As it was our scheduled Dec 23 2005 at Vivos was canceled by the club anyway so I didn't get a substitute or play solo. Patty is busy with her website on myspace.com. She's getting the word out on our project, and many great comments are pouring in.
I've attached the RegalTones flyer as a JPEG. Albert plans more graphics and announcements on the Cellsum site.
I've also attached a photo I got from Eddie Bazinet, the bass player, from January 1974 featuring the RegalTones nine years later.! From left to right: (Cousin) Ted Streets, guitar & vocals, Joe Bouchard, guitar, piano & vocals, and Ed Bazinet, bass guitar. Seated Albert Bouchard, drums & vocals. Missing from the photo Steve LaLonde, alto sax & vocals.

"Hi Gang,
'Tis the season for giving and I'm off to another good cause this Sunday, Dec 18th 2005. I'm playing with the Mark Mason Blues Band at a benefit for the Thompson Park Zoo in Watertown NY. The show is at the Lake Ontario Playhouse in Sackets Harbor NY. The shindig starts at 3 PM and tickets are $10.
I haven't played in upstate NY in awhile and this will be a good chance to connect with many old friends. While I'm there, I'll be promoting the next big upstate bash with the reunion of my high school group, The Regaltones, on July 8 2006. Can't wait for that one!
Mark is a friend and great blues player, and I thank him for inviting me to perform.
I wonder if they get any "lake effect" snow up there? Pack the snow shoes, shovel and ice scraper!

"Hi Friends,
This is one of the strangest bookings I've ever done.
WRKI radio, I-95 FM, is doing a Guy in the Sky promotion. Neil Hedley, morning talk DJ, is living on a billboard in Danbury CT to raise money for the United Way. They are serving a gourmet meal with yours truly, Joe Bouchard, as a special guest on Friday night Dec 9th, 6 PM. They will be auctioning off a seat at the table for a lucky fan.

Dec 8 Update
Hi Folks,
Because of the weather, dinner with Joe Bouchard and the Guy in the Sky will be Sunday Dec 11 instead for Friday.
I've heard rumor that I might be dining with the Connecticut govenor, Jodi Rell. Pretty wacky indeed.

Dec 12 Update
Hi guys,
All right, You ALL want to know what it was like, right?
First thing I'd like to say is that Neil Hedley DJ is on tough guy. Here's a picture of him pulling the rope to get up to the billboard.
Once we got to the billboard, which was about 50 feet in the air, there is a 30 x 8 foot platform in front where we had dinner. At the end of the platform was Neil's tent, not much bigger than a pup tent. No TV, no electric blanket, just a small heater. The noise of cars going by all night couldn't be too much fun. No luxuries at all except for a cable modem for his computer.
The food that Chef Chas from Stew Leonards served was amazing. Lobster bisque, green salad, mashed potatoes and filet mignons. How he got the stove tops up there to cook on beats me. There was a heater underneath the table but temp the above table was about 25 degrees F. The hot food and hot conversation kept everything from turning to ice.
There were two local auction winners, who got to sit at dinner with Neil and I. One was a contractor and the other his brother, an amateur musician and BOC fan.
I had a great even though it was getting nippy by the time desert of fresh berries and chocolate was served.
The station has raised so far over $70,000 for the United Way and I was glad to help in this small way.
What a hoot! See ya soon.

"Hi Friends,
Just want to let you know that the X Brothers are playing TWO nights in Elmira this week. Thursday night, which is Thanksgiving night, and Friday night. It is always a good time. Looking forward to seeing Jimmy and Andy. We will also have different guests sitting in with us. And plenty of COWBELL!
Happy Thanksgiving!"
Here's some news Joe just posted on J&A:
"We're working on some new BDS gigs, but in the meantime you all can see the X Brothers this Friday, Oct 14 2005, at Chat 19 in Larchmont NY. It's always a cool party. It's Andy's birthday and you never know who will pop in at those gigs."
If you come to CBGBs on Oct 21 and you'll see BDB, Bouchard Dunaway and Bouchard. Neal can't make it that night, but Dennis and I are playing with Albert on drums. Also Rick Tedesco from Dennis's solo project is playing guitar. What great entertainment for a great cause. See cellsum.com for details."
OK - just for the record - as this site is pretty compartmentalised with regards to the sections - I'm classing this CBGBs show as a "Joe Bouchard & Friends" gig. Trying to classify Joe's gigs under distinct headings is getting harder - I'm always amazed that he manages to keep track of all the different songs for all the different line-ups. I'm just waiting for Joe to sit in on a Regal Tones/BOC gig and my designated sections will go out the window
:-)
Regal Tones Reunion!!
Cellsum brings us the exciting news that Albert and Joe's original home-town high-school band, the Regal Tones are reuniting "on July 8th 2006 for a special benefit show in Clayton NY. "
"Details are being worked out but it will be a long sweet trip down memory lane."
I asked Albert for some more details. Here's what he said:
Well, this will be the first time we will have played together since 1965. The Regal Tones played over 400 shows in their career. We had a repertoire of over 220 songs but will probably only play 40 or so at this show.
It is a one off but it will be well documented I think. We will probably have opening acts that will be our nieces and nephews. A number of them have bands.
It is a benefit for 2 charities. The Ryan Russell Memorial Scholarship Fund (our cousin once removed) and the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome Research Fund.
If you click the image above, it opens up a newspaper clipping which mentions the Regal Tones were in a Battle of the Band finals. I asked how they did in this competition:
We actually did win that battle of the bands. We lost other smaller contests but that was the biggest one in the area. It was a multi-day event with 2 run-off rounds before the final. So to win we actually had to win 3 contests. In the final we played This Diamond Ring, She Turns Me On (an original) and Johnny B Goode. We were the only band in the area to play original tunes.
Al
PS We will be wearing uniforms
Here's Joe's latest news in the form of a quick Q&A:
Got a name yet for you and Patty???
We're still searching for a name. Driveslaver isn't bad, but we'd probably only get gigs opening for Slipknot and Mudvayne. ;-)!
Any news on the CD with Patty G?
The CD is a little behind schedule. Slowly I've been getting the new software I need, but I still have yet to purchase a Mac G5. It will be here sometime this fall. My studio is going through a major renovation. I've got a new window. As I type this email, the carpenter is installing a new air conditioner in the wall. It's hard to type, much less record with sawing and hammering going on. LOL!
Patty and I are writing lots of new songs and we will to do several new demos before finalizing the list of songs for the CD. I have to wear two hats in this group. Since I'm the producer as well as performer, I have to consider whether all the songs are good enough, and what sounds would make this CD stand out. I want this project to really be right, so if it takes a few more months to put the pieces of the puzzle together that's okay.
Any news on "jb.com"?
Since I'm still redoing my studio, I haven't had time to get the website together. I have been looking into the blog aspect of the site and I think I really don't want to set up a running diary on the net. Unless you are a politician it seems awful intrusive into one's personal life. (My sister has a blog - since our mother passed away recently you can read her eulogy.)
Chances are it will be a very basic site based around a calendar and important news bulletins.
I really enjoy checking your database for BOC facts. Like Sunday I'm going to Saratoga to see Brian Wilson's Smile Tour. BOC played there in May of 1975, over 30 years ago. Wow! I just had to check my facts in case I'm talking with musicians there about my past history.
I'll try to get more set lists to you. The problem is I'm usually making set lists for the gigs ahead, and don't have much time for looking back. And then on the gig, I often change the set depending on the crowd and my mood. The only way I can be sure I've got the set lists right is check the minidisk, and that takes even more time. But like I said it's great to have that database for the archivists. You never know when you will need it.
I'm so happy that BDS finally got a decent gig in NYC at BB Kings. It's going to be a great night. We're starting to get some better offers for gigs. The band is too good to only play 2-3 gigs per year.
Jim Siatras has kindly emailed to let me know that "the guys were on I-95 yesterday morn here in CT. Email Joe and get the complete set list but they did Under my Wheels & 18. Hard to hear the Radio station on this side of the state, although through the static I got to hear some of it.
Dennis is also playing this Sunday at Tuxedo Junction with his band and I have posted the names of his band at the group, check it out..."
Joe's posted some details of some upcoming gigs on J&A's:
"I just want you to know that the X Brothers are playing at the Chat 19 American Grill in Larchmont, NY on March 4th. It's been almost 11 months since our last show (Florida April 2004). The Chat 19 Lounge is located at 19 Chatsworth Ave. Larchmont NY. The club phone is: 914-833-8871"
"More dates:
The Joe Bouchard and Patty G Acoustic Project is playing Danbury CT this coming Friday Feb. 25 2005. This intimate venue is called Vivo's in the Maron Hotel. It's a very fine restaurant and nice bar, a good place to tryout new songs and arrangements."
"And don't forget the good times guaranteed at Ale Mary's Pub on March 12th with Joe Bouchard and Friends."
